OUR DRINKS
At Sonnema we proudly and passionately make Sonnema Berenburg according to the same secret recipe as Fedde Sonnema in 1860. The original Berenburg recipe has been used since 1860 and will continue to do so!

Sonnema Berenburg
The Sonnema Berenburg mixed drink. A perfect moment to savor. Here’s our perfect serve: Fill a highball glass with ice cubes Add 35ml Sonnema Berenburg Top with Cola and garnish with a lemon wedge Voila! Simple and sophisticated. We like to keep things uncomplicated by never adding more than three or four ingredients to a drink, ensuring we keep the clean flavor of our spirit.

Sonnema has been drunk from generation to generation. It’s a more than 160 year old expertly crafted drink that tells its own story. It’s the epitome of sophistication. Our unique recipe uses gentian root, sandalwood, centaury, ash leaf, orange peel and other herbs. It's this exact recipe with how we got our start in 1860 and it’s how we make our distinguished drink. Everything is traditionally made with care and still follows our old, secret family recipe to this day. With a complex charm and spicy bite, Sonnema Berenburg makes for a perfect spirit for mixing with your favorite soda or as a component in a tasty and sophisticated cocktail. Robust and distinctive. That's the taste of Sonnema! You could say the Sonnema Berenburg is just as quirky as our Dutch founder Fedde Sonnema who made his own beerenburg in his inn back in 1860, since he also gave his own twist to the name by dropping an ‘e’ from Beerenburg. Sonnema's Berenburg is still written with one 'e' – a small yet neat nod to its heritage.

Sonnema 1860
Sonnema 1860 is a rich and full Beerenburg with a characteristic composition of various herbs and fruits. The distinct and charmingly complex taste of Sonnema 1860 differs from the Sonnema Berenburg flavor, due to a different and enhanced infusion of botanical herbs and an increase in alcohol percentage. In a nod to the drink’s refinement and sophistication, we swapped our current bottle design for the original Sonnema Berenburg bottle with a sleek matte black coating, accentuated with alluring golden details. The Sonnema 1860 is best savored pure, either neat or on the rocks.

The main distinction between Sonnema 1860 and the original Sonnema Berenburg lies in the composition of the herbs, but also in our distillation process. For Sonnema 1860, the herbs are only used once, with fresh herbs used with every new production. In addition, the amount of herbs in Sonnema 1860 is much higher than in the regular Sonnema Berenburg. As of today, we are still making Berenburger to our classic 1860 family recipe. The Sonnema 1860 is carefully composed with unique ingredients. The juniper berry, classic herbs, bay leaf and gentian root. The taste dances with subtle hints of bitter and sweet orange, galangal root, mint and tarragon leaves, and undertones of rosemary, sandalwood and basil.

Sonnema HERBAL
Our newest blend, Sonnema Herbal, offers your taste buds a completely different experience than the Sonnema Berenburg. Licorice-like, robust and spicy with a slightly sweet aftertaste, it makes the perfect drink for a shot. Sonnema ‘Krûden likeur’ – as the Dutchies would say – is a drink best enjoyed ice cold, so we would recommend putting the bottle in the freezer before serving. Make sure you bring out those shot glasses, toast your drinks and say ‘Tsjoch!’ when you do (this means cheers in Frisian, our local language in northern Netherlands).

Our newest family member consists of a combination of colorful herbs and vibrant spices. There are eight botanical, volatile herbs that stand out: star anise, wormwood, orange bitter, angelica roots, juniper berries, cloves, licorice root and cinchona bark. Herbal, refreshing and complex.
PREMIX
Ready-to-serve and ready-to-drink, those are Sonnema's premixes! No more mixing it yourself, just open the lip of the can and drink! The premix is available in two different flavours: orange and cola.
